Oh, Appalachia

Oh the whispers get old In this postcard town And the streets are cobblestone They echo the sound As I reminisce and listen Maybe I ought to leave And I know the evergreens are swaying Somewhere north of me Leave the peace I find beneath those old cedar trees Oh I'll miss you But before the sun comes up I gotta go I gotta go Oh Appalachia I promise I don't hate you But you can only go so far in a ten mile town I'll love you from the distance Come back to you on Christmas I swear the river's rising and I don't wanna drown Oh Appalachia Please forgive me Wish I could take you with me I'll go walking for miles And I won't see your face In a town where everybody knows everybody's name And I get tired I get tired of the same old thing I know the evergreens are swaying Somewhere north of me Leave the peace I find beneath those old cedar trees Oh i'll miss you But before the sun comes up I gotta go I gotta go Oh Appalachia I promise I don't hate you But you can only go so far in a ten mile town I'll love you from the distance Come back to you on Christmas I swear the river's rising and I don't wanna drown Oh Appalachia Please forgive me Wish I could bring you with me Oh I'll drive On a road I've never taken I'll tell ya when I make it Appalachia Oh I'll drive On a road I've never taken I'll tell ya when I make it Appalachia Oh, Appalachia Please forgive me Wish I could take you with me
